What we do
We collect good baby and toddler essentials from people who have finished with them, check and sort them, and pass them on free to families who need them. Clothes, nappies, bedding, feeding equipment, toiletries and toys, for children up to their second birthday.
There is no charge and no means test. We do not ask families to prove anything to us. Somebody already working with the family tells us what is needed, and we pack it.
Who we help
Families in [DEFINE THE AREA WE COVER] with a baby or child under two, or expecting one. Referrals come through the people already supporting them.
Need does not look like one thing. Some families have left home with nothing. Some had an income until the month it stopped. Some were managing perfectly well until a second baby arrived eighteen months after the first. None of that is our business beyond knowing what to put in the bag.
How we are run
Avon Valley Baby Bank is a charitable incorporated organisation. Our application to the Charity Commission is pending, so we do not yet have a registered charity number. When it is issued it will appear at the foot of every page on this site.
The charity is run by its trustees. They are volunteers, none of them is paid, and under our constitution they are also the only voting members of the charity.

Our governing document is the Foundation model constitution for a CIO whose only voting members are its charity trustees. It will be published on the Charity Commission register once registration completes.
Where the things come from
Everything we hand out was given to us first, by people in the villages and towns around us. We buy very little — only the items that are not safe to pass on second-hand.
If you have things to give, the donate items page says what we can and cannot take. If you have a couple of hours a week, we would rather have your time than your money.
